An Auspicious Day

November 5th, 2009

On this most auspicious of days, I release to the masses my website.

It’s been a labour of love & frustration. I’d expect that’s probably how my parents feel regarding my childhood… Nevertheless, in a very strange way, I am the parent of this website. That being said, I will strive to help my website develop into something fantastic.

Now, you get to enjoy some back story. All none of you reading this.

Early Years

Since 1999, I’ve been involved in web design in some manner or fashion. My first website endeavor found me creating an ill-conceived fan-site for the box-office hit “The Matrix.” Predictably, the site went nowhere & I eventually cancelled my Angelfire account. I also realized that “The Matrix” was *not* the pinnacle of cinematic ingenuity.

The time between 1999 and 2004 goes a bit fuzzy (regarding web design), but, suffice it to say, I hit a dry patch. Finally, my freshman year of college (2004), I purchased my first web hosting account. Deciding to experiment with various web design software, CMS solutions, & general web server voodoo, I never found a concrete outlet for my undertakings.

Fast forward to 2006.

I decided that I *really* didn’t want to double major in Electrical Engineering & Computer Science. Electing to enroll in the Rawls College of Business, I found a new major in Management Information Systems. During the year of 2007, I also decided to enroll in the College of Arts & Sciences. The end-result was my feverish pursuit of two degrees: Bachelor of Arts in Technical Communication & Bachelor of Business Administration in Management Information Systems.

Blammy. We’ve reached May 2009.

I graduated with my two degrees & elected to take a few months off. Why? Why would I take time off? Well, as anyone who pursues two degrees simultaneously knows, it’s tiring. Having obtained my degrees, I wanted to take a break. I also wanted to freelance for a few months & pursue personal web design projects.

We’ve reached the point where it’s time to take a break from taking a break. I’m actively pursuing a full-time design job.

Fortunately, I am at the point in my life where I’m:

  1. Able to relocate
  2. Willing to learn
  3. Bubbling forth with exciting ideas

The Plan

Over the next few months, while seeking full-time employment, I’ll be working on the remainder of my personal projects & writing for my website. This means that my website should be regularly updated with new portfolio pieces, fresh thoughts, and other fun items. My design of this website will allow me to design each thought with custom artwork, layouts, and color schemes. Experimenting with the web medium should allow me to explore paths I have not yet taken.

Still reading? Wow! Thanks for bearing with me.

-Greg
